What is Dental Technology?

From the first dentures in ancient times to the development of local anesthetics to advanced computer-guided diagnosis tools, dentistry has always been closely linked with technology. Modern dental technologies include imaging and scanning systems to aid in diagnosis, advanced composite materials to restore damaged teeth, and computer-aided systems that can scan, design, and create a crown to replace a missing tooth in a single appointment. Our team uses these technologies to provide the best possible dental care.

Intraoral Digital Scanners

Intraoral digital scanners let us take an impression of your teeth or mouth using a small handheld scanner. This not only lets us avoid using the “goop” traditionally used to take impressions, it also provides highly accurate scans that can be stored and analyzed digitally for use in treatment.

Cone Beam CT Digital Scans

Cone beam digital scanners use an advanced x-ray to take 3D images of the mouth. The scanner can take images of your bones and teeth like a traditional x-ray, and it can also take images of soft tissues such as the gums, tongue and nerves. These images are a valuable tool for placing dental implants, diagnosing mouth and jaw problems such as TMJ disorder and planning dental procedures such as root canal treatment.
